Genre Artists: Painting Nude Female Bathers
The genre paintings have gone through constant change. It has occurred due to the change of lifestyle of the people and accepting newer themes of paintings by the artists. The art of genre painting has developed through these changes. It has got new work and the fresh perspectives with the passing of time.
In seventeenth and eighteenth century, the subjects of genre painting ran around the peasant's acts of joy. These acts were like dancing, participating in festivals and many a time doing household and professional works for earning. Most of these subjects explored the sensual experience of the common people, especially the acts of pleasure.
As confined by the definition, and the concept that outline the scope of genre painting, the artists have remained preoccupied in painting the reality. These artists, mainly the Dutch painters, preoccupied themselves in painting the costumes and daily practices of the people living in their immediate surrounding. However the art had never been mere exposition of what the artists saw. These artists applied their observations and artistic analysis while painting the scenes before their eyes.
With the change of the life style of the common people, to, the bath house culture had evolved. These houses were the places where families would go for bathing. They would go in flocks, taking friends and children with them. However there were separate baths for men and women. The bath houses meant for women were staffed by the female servants only.
In some genre paintings we can see bath house where the women bathers are enjoying their bath along with friends. The artists, Jean-Léon Gérôme, had skilfully depicted the nude females bathing and cleansing their bodies.

Nudist Resorts Celebrate the 31st Anniversary of Nude Recreation Week July 10th to 16th
Nude sunbathing and swimming have a long history in America. Some of the more famous early nudists were Presidents George Washington and John Quincy Adams. Ben Franklin took daily "air baths" as he called them "au naturel." Many more presidents such as FDR enjoyed skinny dipping. And Norman Rockwell's painting titled No Swimming showing skinny dipping at the local water hole, graced the front cover of The Saturday Evening Post on June 4, 1921.
This July, celebrate the 31st anniversary of Nude Recreation Week from July 10th to 16th. The American Association for Nude Recreation http://aanr.com is one of the major sponsors. The purpose of this week is to inform and educate people about all the fun they are missing out on by not taking nude vacations.
According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, nude recreation is one of the fastest growing segments of the travel industry. Nude vacationers now have choices such as cruises (on such lines as Holland America, Carnival, and Star Flyer sponsored by The Nude Crise Company Bare Necessities of Austin Texas), upscale resorts, and rural campgrounds and clubs. Guests feel very safe and comfortable at nudist resorts as inappropriate behavior is not allowed. One upscale resort owner was even President of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce.
